Description
Lagerstroemia speciosa is a large deciduous tree, usually 10–25 m tall, with a broad crown and straight trunk. Bark is grey-brown, smooth when young, becoming slightly rough with age. Leaves are simple, opposite, thick, and leathery, broadly elliptic to oblong, usually 10–25 cm long, with entire margins and prominent veins. Leaves may turn reddish before shedding. Flowers are bisexual, large, showy, and arranged in terminal panicles. Flowers are usually pink to purple, with six wrinkled petals and numerous yellow stamens. Fruits are woody capsules, globose to ellipsoid, splitting into several valves when mature and releasing numerous seeds.
