Flowers are typically white to pale purple with purple-blue corona filaments. The androecium consists of five stamens with large anthers, and the ovary is superior with three fused carpels. Fruits are globose to ovoid berries, commonly 3–6 cm long, green when immature and yellowish when mature. Fruits contain numerous flattened seeds surrounded by juicy pulp.
