Description

Canna flaccida is a perennial rhizomatous herb, usually 1–2 m tall, with erect, unbranched stems arising from thick underground rhizomes. Leaves are large, simple, oblong to lanceolate, bright green, and arranged alternately in two ranks. Flowers are large, showy, bright yellow, with broad, slightly drooping petals (staminodes), and borne in terminal racemes. Fruits are green, spiny capsules that turn brown at maturity and contain numerous hard, black, spherical seeds.
